Use this form to apply to become a vehicle inspector (VI) issuing warrants of fitness (WoFs).
You can also use this form to apply to add inspection groups to your existing WoF appointment or resit a test.

- Your criminal record check (unless you’re already appointed as a vehicle inspector, an inspecting organisation or specialist certifier).
- Proof of your qualifications and/or experience.
- If you don't have a New Zealand driver licence, a clear colour copy of your overseas driver licence (and international driving permit, if you have one).
- Any other supporting documents you have.

Application requirements
To complete this application you’ll need to tell us:
- your reference number from the first application you made
- whether you want to make any changes to your application, like what inspection groups you want to be tested for or where you’ll complete your test.
Please have your reference number ready before you start. If you don’t provide it, your application could be delayed.
If you don't hold a current appointment as an inspecting organisation (IO), vehicle inspector (VI) or specialist certifier, you need to provide a criminal record check from the Ministry of Justice. It must have been issued within the last 90 days. If you supplied one with your original application and it’s still within 90 days of issue, you don’t need to provide another one.
Important: If your first application was for multiple groups, you can choose to only resit some of them. If you want to add more groups to your application, you’ll need to complete a new application instead.
